About Volunteering
We are always looking for volunteers passionate about womens history. Below is information about available volunteer opportunities.
There are many roles available depending what we need. Offering you a chance to gain a wide range of experience.

Writer/Researcher – Write and research women’s history in New Zealand. Actively contributing to our growing collection

We are looking for volunteers passionate about history, writing or feminism. you will be helping write and record our history!
What the role is…
What you will be doing is writing about certain events, people, groups and more about New Zealand’s women’s history. We cover almost any topic, so long as it includes women and New Zealand. You also get to chose what you write about, so you can follow your passions.
There are no deadlines, so don’t worry about having to fit in the work with a busy schedule. accompanying this there will be training on how to cover women’s history.
Your duties
- Researching about women’s history in New Zealand
- Writing articles about women’s history in New Zealand
- Responding to emails
You only have to do as much as you can, so don’t feel pressured over the possible workload. It is all online-based, so you can help from anywhere.

Admin, Christchurch based – For a new Christchurch focused project, we are looking for some extra admin support! this is with helping organise our content, helping contact volunteers, data entry and other tasks. This is just whenever you have time, all tasks are available online. There will be occasional in-person meetings.

Here at Women’s History of New Zealand, we want to create an accessible accurate collection of women’s history. To do that we produce articles about women’s history. To improve our content we are looking for an editor who can help make our work be more accurate, be easily understood and more accessible overall.
For a new Christchurch focused project, we are looking for some extra admin support! this is with helping organise our content, helping contact volunteers, data entry and other tasks. This is just whenever you have time, all tasks are available online. There will be occasional in-person meetings.

Social media management – Helping improve our social media presence. To make this resource as well known as possible.

Here at Women’s History of New Zealand, we want to create an accessible accurate collection of women’s history. To do that we produce articles about women’s history. To improve our content we are looking for a social media manager to promote our content.
We are open to new approaches when it comes to social media, we are keen to hear new ideas. This is a chance for you to take the reins on our social media management.
The duties…
- Posting on social media
- Fact checking information
- Generate, edit, publish and share engaging content (e.g. original text, photos, videos and news)
- Help increase social media presence
- Collaborate with others!
- Communicate with followers
Skills and experience…
- Social media savvy
- Good time management
- Strongly capable of using technology
- Basic knowledge of women’s history
- Can use many kinds of social media (Including: TikTok, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter)
